Saturday, July 9th - Devaney Motorsports headed back to Atomic Motor Speedway where Devaney was tied for the lead in points with Patrick Duggan. Devaney decided to take a new car out Saturday after experiencing some motor trouble the night before at Wartburg Speedway in his normal ride. Devaney pulled on the track first in line to qualify but as he came across the line for the green his car began to smoke. The car seemed to be running fine but was billowing smoke out the back. Atomic's flagman waved the yellow which slowed Devaney off of turn 4 as the clock clicked a 13.460. Tommy then pulled the car in the infield to check the car. The problem was a busted valve cover, a simple fix with a quick trip home and back. Devaney got another valve cover and prepared for the race. Starting that far back in the field was going to make it a challenge to maintain the points lead, especially with Duggan on the pole. Devaney raced a clean race working with the track the best he could to gain positions but at the end of 35 laps Devaney had only managed to get to 16th place. Unfortunately, Duggan went on to win and took over the points lead. Devaney now sits in 2nd, 30 points out of the lead.
